Welcome
North Mid Frew Cottage is the east
wing of a fully restored small Scottish farmhouse adjoining
a distinguished tower house with a classic
car collection in a secluded location seven miles west of
Stirling. Located midway between
the picturesque villages of Thornhill and Kippen, the cottage
has panoramic views of the Campsie hills to the south, the Grampian,
Trossachs and Loch Lomond mountains to the north and west, and
Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument to the east.
The cottage can accommodate four
to five people occupying one twin room (downstairs), one double
room (upstairs) - both with ensuite bath/shower rooms, and
a small bunk room (upstairs). Bed linen, towels and related
equipment are all provided. There is a sitting/dining room
and adjoining kitchen equipped for six, along with a downstairs
toilet. A bath/shower room next to the bunk room can be included
as an extra. We provide full central heating, a copious hot
water supply, a dishwasher, separate laundry and drying facilities
in the nearby outbuildings, private front door and entrance
gate leading to a dedicated parking area. A paved terrace
opposite the front door is equipped with garden furniture
and is a sun trap in good weather. A local area network is available for internet access.
A special feature of North Mid Frew is the small
but high quality collection of classic
cars housed in a gallery/garage forming part of the outbuildings
north of the cottage and which in addition to being open to
the public on a by-appointment basis, is available for viewing
by our tenants at the cottage. The 1932 Rolls-Royce is offered
for use at weddings and other special occasions, and outings
in the two 1930's Bentleys may be arranged for our guests.
Unlike some car museums, our collection is a working one with
all the vehicles in good running order, licensed and ready
for the road. Guests who are themselves classic car owners
are warmly encouraged to bring their car with them on holiday
here. Lock-up garaging can be provided within the security
system already in place for the existing collection.
Thornhill is an ideal base for visiting Stirling and the
rest of central Scotland. The Trossachs, Loch Lomond National
Park and many other well-known tourist attractions are on
our doorstep and the foothills of the highlands are close
by. Within a radius of 25 miles there are innumerable small
villages mostly with pubs serving excellent food. Craft shops
and good general shopping facilities are close at hand. The
neighbourhood abounds in sites of historical importance with
particular reference to the old rivalries between Scotland
and England, between lowlands and highlands, to Rob Roy MacGregor,
Robert the Bruce, William Wallace and the famous Scottish
military regiments. There are unlimited opportunities nearby
for golf, fishing, hill-walking, mountain biking and water-sports.
There is also a whisky trail for those interested in tracing
where their favourite tipple hails from.
