Places To Visit
Central Scotland is rich in places of scenic beauty and historical
interest, providing an excellent choice of full- or part-day
excursions from Thornhill. These include castles, historic
houses, mountains, lochs, rivers, picturesque towns and villages,
cathedrals and art galleries as well as an abundance of countryside
and wide open spaces.
The modern and uncongested Scottish road systems provide
ready access to the major cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth
and Dundee while nearby Stirling with its castle and many
buildings of architectural interest is a focal point for local
activities and shopping.
A selection of specific places in Central Scotland to visit,
which is by no means exhaustive, includes:
- Blair Drummond Safari Park
- Dumgoyne Distillery
- Dunblane Cathedral
- Edinburgh Castle
|
- Glasgow Cathedral
- Holyrood Palace
- Loch Lomond National Park
- Loch Leven and the Lake of Menteith
- Gartness Salmon Leap
|
- New Lanark
- Stirling Castle
- The Falkirk Wheel
- The Trossachs
|
Within a fifteen mile radius of North Mid Frew, there is a wealth
of villages each with its own personality. These include Aberfoyle,
Balfron, Buchlyvie, Callander, Doune, Drymen, Gargunnock, Gartmore,
Killearn, Kippen, Port of Menteith and Thornhill.
For visits further afield - to the Scotland/England border country,
the Western Isles, Aberdeen, Inverness and the far north of
Scotland - more time should be allowed and some of these may
be visited before or after your stay at Thornhill. Alternatively,
one-day or overnight excursions may be made by road, rail or
air.
However energetic or ambitious you decide to be you will
always be assured of a peaceful and rural environment on return
to the cottage in the heart of the Stirlingshire countryside.
